Linda Bartz is currently the District 3 County Commissioner and served as last year’s County Commission Chair. She previously served as Council Member and Vice Mayor for the City of Port St. Lucie. She is a retired finance executive and a Democrat.
First elected to public office in 2006, Linda has over a decade of public sector experience, governing through good times and bad. Having been elected to the Port St. Lucie City Council just before the Great Recession hit, she put her finance skills to work. Linda and her fellow council members restructured the city’s expenses to keep taxes as low as possible but also made sure to continue to invest in infrastructure and maintenance so the city would be well positioned when the economy picked up. The foresight of Linda and the other council members during those difficult times laid the foundation for the economic engine that Port St. Lucie has become today.
In her 2016 race for County Commission, Linda said she would focus on fiscal responsibility, economic development, and infrastructure investment. Over the last 3 -1/2 years, she took that charge to heart. The county has experienced unprecedented job creation, significant expansions in its boat manufacturing sector, made important investments in the port and airport, secured an Amazon distribution facility, and has begun much-needed infrastructure improvements. All without raising property taxes.
Her focus for the coming years will continue to be on economic development, jobs, maintaining fiscal responsibility, developing a plan for property tax rate reduction, providing for necessities and amenities for our residents, and ensuring that we invest wisely in needed infrastructure improvements and protect our environment.
Linda and her husband Gary moved to St. Lucie County in 1985, coming first to Polk County from New Jersey and then on to St. Lucie. They raised three daughters here and now have four grandchildren.
She has served on a number of boards and agencies such as St. Lucie County Sustainability Ad Hoc Committee, alternate representative to the Transportation Planning Organization, and Treasure Coast League of Cities and has been a member of the Lion's Club, Council on Aging, Crime Stoppers, Exchange Club, Concerned Citizens, SafeSpace, STARS, St. Lucie County Tourist Development Council, Port St. Lucie Rotary Club, St. Lucie County Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Council of St. Lucie County, the St. Lucie County Harbor Advisory Board, Port St. Lucie Historical Society, Hospice Ethics Committee, Big Heart Brigade, and Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens.
